In order to make unique cookies, you must have some doo-das in your kitchen. They can help take a basic cookie to the next level. The more steps to make a cookie, the more impressive it looks.
I feel like I keep preaching about not throwing away leftover royal icing and this is why.
You can make cool things like ribbon roses with it.
(extra points if you noticed my hidden mickey)
These wedding cake cookies were basic until the ribbon roses were added.
I also love making my own sprinkles, eventhough I've yet to have an opportunity to use them. I'm reminded of peeling the candy dots off the paper and eating them (and sometime the paper, too) as a child. Looking back, I can't believe someone was genious enough to come up with that idea and market it. So simple.
Not only could you use them for sprinkles, but also to make different designs. Like flowers.
I had some leftover icing once and was too lazy to color it. Instead I added some white sanding sugar.
As soon as I made these I knew they would be perfect bunny tails or party/santa hat doo-das.
I love luster dust. It adds a sophisticated sparkle to any cookie. I've used luster dust once before, but never on cookies. This week I've got some fun cookies up my sleeve that involve gold luster dust and I cannot wait to paint it on the cookies. To use luster dust, you mix the dry powder with a tiny bit of vodka, grab a food safe paint brush and paint your cookie. Who doesn't love an excuse to pull out the alcohol while cooking? (Although in this house, my husband's just excited to see the vodka get used for something since I really don't drink.)
These were the dragees I referred to in the last blog post. I also can't wait to add them to some cookies. Anyone have a reason for me to make cookies and use them?
I quickly discovered what a must have these edible food coloring markers were.
You can use them to help outline your design.
Or add finishing touches to your cookies.
I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend! I've got a busy day in my kitchen tomorrow!! I have homework to make a 2 layer cake with a filling for my cake class and I'm thinking about a Thin Mint inspired cake. Doesn't that sound delicious? I also need to start working on cookies for my sister's Harry Potter themed birthday party and pick up the supplies to make Butterbeer cupcakes, too.
(Lord, give me the strength to tackle these projects.
I am so out of my league when it comes to Harry Potter stuff.)
