When I left for class tonight Paul told me to swing by my parent's house and drop the cake off before coming home.
But I was too lazy and came straight home.
Besides I wanted to show him my creation.
We learned how to make ribbon roses tonight.
These were the only ones decent enough to make the cut. The other ones I deemed unworthy.
Here are all of my supplies ready to go.
You can see some of the roses that didn't meet my expectations. I have a new found respect for people who make these over and over again. I'd make ribbon roses out of royal icing any day over these buttercream ribbon roses.
I used some other techniques we learned in class including the shell border and leaves.
I also piped some simple white dots on the side to give it some dimension.
When I got home after class, I cut the cake and offered Paul a slice.
Not having had any dessert, he graciously accepted my offer.
Then he told me I could make this cake any time I wanted, it was that good.
Better than the thin mint cake.
I don't know whether to be proud or heart broken.
That Thin Mint cake was all home made from scratch and took a lot of time.
This cake was a simple white box cake mix and a jar of seedless raspberry jam.
Delicious and light and completely unoriginal.
Looks like I'll have to retrain his tastebuds.
Oh, and I've signed up for Cake Clas #2. First class meets next Wednesday!
Bring on the flowers and cake decorating techniques!
